Networking Devices and Initial Configuration
About Course
The Networking Devices and Initial Configuration course, offered by the RMK Solutions and Training, is an intermediate-level program designed to build foundational skills for careers in Cybersecurity, DevNet, or for pursuing the CCNA certification.
Course Description
This 22-hour course covers the essentials of network design, structure, and operations. It transitions from basic networking concepts to more advanced skills needed to build and manage small office networks. Students engage with rich multimedia content, interactive activities, and approximately 19 practice labs—including simulations in Cisco Packet Tracer—to develop critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
What Students Will Learn
By the end of the course, students will be able to perform the following technical tasks:
- Network Design & Cloud: Explain the components of a hierarchical network design and the characteristics of cloud services and virtualization.
- IP Addressing Mastery: Calculate and design complex IPv4 subnetting schemes and understand how DHCP and DNS services automate addressing.
- Device Configuration: Use the Cisco IOS Command Line Interface (CLI) to configure routers and switches, set up security passwords, and establish remote access.
- Network Protocols: Explain how Ethernet operates in a switched network, how ARP enables local communication, and how routers use network layer protocols for end-to-end connectivity.
- Connectivity & Troubleshooting: Build a small Cisco network from scratch and use tools like ping and traceroute to verify and troubleshoot connectivity issues.
